Discover one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa, tucked away on the route between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park, where breathtaking mountain ranges, incredible waterfalls, and outstanding flora and fauna are the order of the day. Situated in one of the most spectacularly scenic areas of the country, there is simply no better way to enjoy the pleasures of nature than Mpumalanga’s Waterval Boven. This small town, whose name means “above the waterfall” is situated above the 75m Elands Falls, and the town of Waterval Onder, which means “below the waterfall”. Adventure enthusiasts are in for a treat in this small town as Waterval Boven is a major rock climbing attraction, boasting about 650 sport climbing and 150 traditional routes. The cliffs surrounding Waterval Boven, known as the ‘Restaurant at the End of the Universe’ Crags, are home to one of the premier rock climbing destinations in South Africa and in the world. Other things to do around the area include fishing, exploring the various hiking spots, and abseiling adventures from the the top of the Elands River Gorge. This gorge is also a very popular rock climbing spot, so why not climb up from Waterval Onder and abseil back down. How to get there: Waterval Boven is situated on the N4. From Johannesburg take the N12 east till it merges on to the N4 after about 125km. Continue on the N4 for a further 125km till you see the signs for the ZASM Ave and Emgwenya or Waterval Boven. Waterval Onder is through the tunnels and down the short pass from Waterval Boven (also called Emgwenya). We love this snap @nicolasdanyau thank you. #MeetSouthAfrica #TravelSouthAfrica #Travelgram #Mpumalanga #ExploreSouthAfrica #ThisIsSouthAfrica #southafrica
