Did you know?
Sandton City is one of South Africa's oldest and most exclusive malls. At Sandton City shopping centre you will find the best in local and international shops.
Sandton City Shopping Centre in Johannesburg is one of the best-known and well-loved of South African shopping destinations and is home to over 400 international and local fashion brands. Situated in one of the most exclusive parts of the city, and dating from 1974, Sandton City really is the grand-dame of malls, a retail piece de resistance, well-known for constantly updating its style and facilities.
The atmosphere at Sandton City is cosmopolitan and sophisticated. You will find the very best South Africa and the world has to offer in its wide range of shops and showrooms, from unique South African jewellery to the latest handbags from Italy and practically anything in between.
This shopping centre in Sandton combines the classic and the contemporary in everything from architecture, dining and retail outlets. You will find South African designers, such as Jenni Button and Hilton Weiner, displayed alongside international labels such as DKNY, Gucci and Diesel. Local retailers include favourites like Woolworths, Edgars and Stuttafords.
There is also an 11-screen Ster Kinekor Classic Cinema at the mall and attached to the centre via a pedestrian mall bridge is Nelson Mandela Square, a 16 000 m² development. This area houses many well-known and trendy restaurants, as well as a 6-metre bronze statue of Nelson Mandela - great for photographs.
Given the centre’s profile and position in the central business district, it is also home to many restaurants, including some of the top dining establishments in the city. They attract customers from the nearby hotels and vibrant business community around the mall, as well as further afield. Don't miss the latest and hottest dining and drinking spots in Johannesburg on the Sandton Sun's sixth floor, which includes a cheese room, interactive kitchen, wine bar and drinking deck with a view over the city. Access is through the hotel or shopping centre.
It came as no surprise when it was recently announced that the centre will receive a R1,77-billion upgrade, to position the complex as South Africa's very own Wall Street. The redevelopment will include the construction of an 80-storey office tower, a new hotel, new retail and office space and residential apartments.
